Auckland University's business school will use a $230,000 grant from Hewlett Packard to carry out research into how young people use mobile technologies.
The grant encompasses tablet and handheld PCs and cash and business school IS and digital commerce professor Ananth Srinivasan says the gift will be used to evaluate the impact of mobile technology on productivity in the university.
"The research project is to see what things work in an education context."
The business school will work with the university's computer services division to deploy the technology.

HP spokesman Ken Erskine says Auckland was the only New Zealand educational institute to apply for the grant and one of seven in the asia-pacific region, from a total of 21 applicants, to be awarded one.
"The main output for HP is shared learning about wireless technology in education and the research links it allows us to build with the universities."
