Auckland-based Prism Software is developing an extension to its WIN distribution and job manufacturing products that will manage the storage, distribution and replenishment of printed matter for printing industry customers.

Support from the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology has allowed the company to employ masters computer science degree student Bing Chen.

Chen's academic supervisor, John Hamer, of the University of Auckland's department of computer science, says printers are increasingly demanding that they be able to make changes without reference to their software supplier.

Chen's research work is due to be completed next January and Prism plans to start offering the software in 2001. The company has grown from 25 staff to more than 100 in four years, citing export success in niche markets.
