Vignette, SolNet make up

A partnership between Vignette and local Sun agent SolNet appears to be on the boil again.

A partnership between Vignette and local Sun agent SolNet appears to be on the boil again.

Sun is a worldwide partner with the content management giant but in August last year SolNet expressed to Computerworld some doubt about the partnership.

SolNet felt the company was positioning the product as a development architecture, a move SolNet was not comfortable with, given that it is “very expensive” and as an architecture is “quite dated”, SolNet executive Mike Lowe said at the time. The company had been at the time offering some technical and business advice to local content management start-up e-cision.

However Vignette’s Sydney-based sales director, Mitchell Chapman, says the company is some way toward finalising a master distributor relationship with SolNet on both sides of the Tasman.

SolNet is more circumspect. “We have an ongoing dialogue and partnering record with Vignette, and recently we’ve been working to establish a consistent relationship across both sides of the Tasman,” says managing director Mark Botherway. SolNet’s key content management executive was in Sydney last week.

Given that Vignette appears to be offering more flexibility on price but is again emphasising its product as a development platform, the details of the relationship will be one for users to watch.
