Compaq’s new compact server is aimed at ISPs and ASPs, particularly where there is limited space.
The ProLiant DL360 series is only 41.9 mm high and can be stacked in racks of up of 84. It is 425.5mm by 635mm.
Compaq says the server means companies can fit double the number of processors in the same space without compromising flexibility, availability, serviceability or manageability.
It is aimed at ISPs and ASPs, particularly space-constrained corporate data centres and remote sites.
Compaq says the DL360 can be installed in a rack in less than five minutes with a fixed rail and cable tray.
For in-rack serviceability, sliding rail options, Telco and third party kits are offered. Servers can also be deployed without a rack with a desktop/stackable chassis option.
Quick replacement of common service components without tools is claimed and features such as hot-plug disk drives deliver high availability.
There are two versions - 800Mhz costing $8495 and a 550Mhz version at $6995.
The processors are either a single 550MHzPentium Flip/Chip or up to two of the new 800MHz Pentium III Flip/Chip processors. Memory is 128 MB, expandable to 4GB.
