Dear What Am I Worth,

I am a 34-year-old software architect living in the US and working for a global ERP [enterprise resource planning] vendor. I am considering moving back to New Zealand to live in Auckland.

I have about 15 years’ experience in the IT field, with in-depth technical knowledge of Unix, Windows and NT, Java (Server Side primarily), JavaScript, EJB’s [Enterprise JavaBeans] and HTML, Progress and Oracle, and various AppServers (SilverStream, Progress Open AppServer and BEA WebLogic).

I have a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Finland. I have in-depth knowledge about data-modelling, OO [object oriented] design and modelling, team-leading and project management. I have managed Java projects with up to 10 developers worth $US350,000.

I have also worked as a technical and management consultant.

Mercury Consulting replies: Your technical skills, with Java on the server side, are worth exploring further. As a software architect you could expect a salary of $70,000 to $85,000.
