Report: Y2K Fears to Close Chinese Ports

Two major ports in China's Shenzhen province are planning to close for as much as nine hours to guard against Year 2000-related computer problems, the official China Daily has reported.

Two major ports in China's Shenzhen province are planning to close for as much as nine hours to guard against Year 2000-related computer problems, the official China Daily has reported.

The newspaper said Huanggang and Luohu ports, which connect Hong Kong with the mainland, will be closed to cargo trucks from late on Friday evening. Huanggang will close to traffic at 10pm while Luohu will shut at 11:30pm. Both plan to be reopen by 7am on Saturday morning, said the newspaper, and will continue to be open to individuals thoughout the rollover period.
