AS/400 developers target US market

Kiwi software developers have banded together to target US users of the IBM iSeries server.

Kiwi software developers have banded together to target US users of the IBM iSeries server.

Local developers Cosyn, FinzSoft, ISD Network, Maximum Availability, PST Software and SAS formed what they call the AS/400 Software Export Market with the help of Trade New Zealand in March. IBM’s midrange iSeries was formerly known as the AS/400.

Cosyn recently went to an IBM US user group conference in Tennessee, which was attended by more than 2500 IT managers and staff. At the conference Cosyn signed distribution deals for the US and Canada and in the past three months has also appointed resellers in Spain, the UK and Australia. Cosyn marketing manager Trevor Middleton says one IT manager the company has begun talks with looks after more than 180,000 staff.

Nine year-old Cosyn’s products include Spool Manager/400, which provides spool file management, the audit tracking Audit Trail/400 and paging software Powerpage/400. Customers include Coca-Cola, Firestone, Marley, Nestle, 3M, Cogent, Ubix and Robinson Industries.

In February another member of the group, Maximum Availability, made a $1.8 million sale to IBM Global Services. IBM will use Maximum Availability’s data replication software for an outsourcing contract with British telecommunications company NTL.

Maximum Availability was started two years ago by five ex-IBMers who had worked on the telecommunications billing software ICMS (Integrated Customer Management System). ICMS was developed for Telecom.
