Dear What Am I Worth,

I'm working as an onsite helpdesk support analyst. I have been working for this company for almost a year and before this I was doing a similar role for six months.

I have completed my MCSE on the NT4 track my electives were IIS4 and TCP/IP. I have NZQA level three computing, NZIM supervisory management certificate.

I've had experience supporting Lotus Notes, Novell, NT4, Win2k. I also have vast PC hardware experience.

My main skill would be in network admin/support. What sort of money should I be getting? At the moment I'm on $31,000 per annum.

I'm wanting to get in to network admin jobs. What should I be studying for this? I also believe my age is against me as I have only just turned 19.

What should I be expecting from my current job? And what would I expect if I was to apply for jobs such as network admin jr or similar?

Josh

IT@Work replies: You seem to have some good solid grounding of skills as a support analyst with almost 18 months' experience and your qualifications to date. We would recommend a salary package in the vicinity of $31,000 to $38,000. Some organisations will offer a slightly lower salary and have other benefits such as allowing time off for/or supporting ongoing study and training. In terms of courses, we would recommend taking your Network Administration studies further - both Cisco and Citrix qualifications assist considerably also in gaining employment in this arena.
