Fifteen-year-old Hamilton internet entrepreneur Sahil Gupta is entering the wireless world with a new 512Kbit/s service starting in the New Year.
The schoolboy owner of ISP NET4U says his firm was due to set up a POP in Hillcrest last week and has begun trials.
Gupta says that part of Hamilton has no wireless service from other ISPs, though Walker Wireless operates in the city.
The service will be operated by his year-old company, which claims more than 1000 ADSL, web hosting and computer services customers.
Gupta is employing a former Alstom staffer for installations, using Compaq and Cisco hardware, running Linux. He says equipment has cost more than $5000 overall.
Depending on distance, up to 11Mbit/s of bandwith will be available.
Gupta is aiming for the residential market but he expects business users to take up the wireless service for virtual private networks.
