HP takeover sees jobs go at CSC

Up to 20 jobs are to go at CSC New Zealand following its takeover by Hewlett-Packard, but neither company will say exactly how many of CSC’s 80 staff will join HP’s 50-strong services division.

CSC NZ head Kimbal Riley has left and gone overseas (see Singapore job for Riley). His replacement is acting managing director Andrew Murray, former CSC applications services manager, who has been at CSC for 13 years.

Murray will be answerable to Mark Bowman, Hewlett-Packard’s services head.

Bowman says job offers have been made to “a number” of CSC staff, concerning permanent roles, temporary roles and some redefined roles. “At least three-quarters of the organisation have been offered roles and accepted,” says Bowman.

He says HP’s existing 50 staff are unaffected by the “integration”of the two business units, due for completion by December 1.

“Hewlett-Packard is not making anyone redundant. If there are redundancies, it will be CSC offering redundancy,” Bowman says.

Sydney-based CSC spokeswoman Megan Rae says only CSC New Zealand was taken over by HP and CSC Australia was not. Rae declined to comment on the job losses saying “as Hewlett-Packard set the parameters, it is not something we can comment on”.

Bowman added later: “I’m not in a position to say [how many are going]. They are not our employees.”
