Voters will be able to see the fruits of their labour as soon as the polling stations close following the local body elections next week.
“Preliminary results will be available through www.localgovt.co.nz immediately they have been released. Under this arrangement the results are expected to be progressively announced from around 2pm [Saturday, 13 October] onwards,” says Bob Vine, executive director, Local Government Online.
In previous years the law has required a delay in posting results until 7pm following the local body election but changes to the legislation allow the results to be posted as soon as practical after counting.
A total of 86 councils will display their results in this manner.
