Economy be damned; more shop online in US in July

Online sales in the US are continuing to grow, with almost $US4 billion of US business done on the web in July, according to research from Forrester Research.

          Total US online spending increased from $3.2 billion in June to $3.98 billion in July. The number of households shopping online increased to 14.7 million from 13.1 million in June, according to a report from Forrester.

          The most popular low-price products are clothes, toys, video games and books, followed by health and beauty products, music and software. More expensive items include airline tickets, hotel reservations computer hardware and consumer electronics.

          The research was done in conjunction with Greenfield Online, an internet-based market research company and is the 19th consecutive monthly survey done by the two companies. It is based on 5000 responses taken in the first nine business days of the month from an online panel developed by Greenfield Online.
