Shado moving out of the shadows

Southern Cross Healthcare and Firestone-Bridgestone have gone live with Shado, a ColdFusion-based web platform that offers features in addition to standard ColdFusion.

Grant Straker, managing director of Shado developer Straker Interactive says Shado has been taken up by several New Zealand businesses. Wilson Parking will also go live soon and another 15 organisations, including Unitec, are trialling the project.

Turners and Growers will trial it on an extranet next month. The project will allow 20 flower and produce growers to do business with Turners and Growers over the extranet and will allow business units within Turners and Growers greater flexibility.

“They’ll be able to manage their own content in the way they want,” Turners and Growers chief information officer Keith Jesson says.

Shado is an ASP application and can be applied to a website, intranet or extranet, Straker says.

“It’s a content management system based on Microsoft and Macromedia platforms.”

Shado has been two years in the making and gives users a standard platform on which to build their e-business, Straker says.

“That’s the platform Turners and Growers have taken.”

Jesson says the company chose Shado because it wanted a more structured website and it likes Shado’s methods for application development, component re-use, content management and workflow.

“Shado represents best practice for a ColdFusion-MS SQL server environment.”

Turners and Growers is a ColdFusion shop, Jesson says “and we had reached a point where we needed a more structured approach to our web developments.”
