Microsoft New Zealand has won a copyright infringement case against Matrix Computers director Michael Knight.

Knight and Matrix have been ordered to delete all unauthorised Microsoft programmes on computers in their possession and surrender any illegal copies of Microsoft programmes, CDR drives and writers and manuals.

Microsoft commenced the action in February, following complaints to the company’s anti-piracy hotline about Matrix. The High Court made the ruling and ordered Knight and/or Matrix to pay costs in a decision yesterday.

Knight, the sole director of Matrix Computers, was absent when the judgement was delivered.

He has also been in legal trouble with Computerworld and IDGNet publisher, IDG, for copyright infringement – last year IDG took out an injunction stopping him offering PCs for sale under the name “Computerworld.”

IDG had no involvement in the sales and had not consented to its name being used to promote the sale.
