Clear Communications is replacing the Hitachi mainframe which runs its billing and financials systems with an IBM box.
The new mainframe is a Z series, Multiprise H70. The Z series is a rebrand of the IBM S/390 which was announced last year.
Clear's executive general manager of IT, Graham Walmsley, says the new computer will provide the company with more capacity and be more cost-effective. The mainframe is part of a regular upgrade and the systems will be switched over next month, he says.
IBM won the tender over Fujitsu and Amdahl.
