New Zealand Herald journalists are calling on the public to boycott the newspaper's website in sympathy with their 24-hour strike.

Herald journalist walked out yesterday saying their employer, Wilson and Horton, had attempted to "deny coverage of the collective employment agreement to more than 30 editorial positions" and offered them a pay rise of only 1.5% when inflation over the past year had reached 3.1%.

Journalists at the national news agency, NZPA, and the Wellington newspaper The Dominion walked out earlier today over separate but similar disputes.

The Herald journalists called on readers to boycott both the print and online versions of the paper.
