Nokia has launched a phone recycling scheme in New Zealand.
The company wants customers to dispose of their used or old mobile phones, batteries and accessories (any make or model) by using designated Nokia recycling bins.
Nokia says once the bins are full, they are collected and replaced within 48 hours. Their contents are then shipped to Citiraya, a Singapore company which recycles precious metals and reuses plastics and other materials found in the phones.
The recycling scheme is an Asia-Pacific project Nokia began last year in Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Plans to introduce the scheme to Thailand, Indonesia and India are under way for this year.
The first Kiwi bins are at Nokia service centres and its Wellington brand store. Others will be installed at phone retailers.
