IT engineering projects spanning from a few days to six months beckon at Axon Computertime, one of New Zealand’s few locally-owned and operated network and e-commerce service companies.

The Auckland-based firm is looking for a senior systems engineer to add to its 130 staff operating nationwide.

Auckland regional services manager Michael Parker says the vacancy involves working with many technologies, such as implementing a LAN or security systems, hooking people up to the internet, assisting with web infrastructure , thin clients implementation, connecting company branches or connecting one company to another.

“There’s a myriad of things they can be involved in,” he says.

Parker wants someone with senior-level engineering skills to fit in his team of 20, probably with four to six years’ IT experience overall, with good verbal and written skills, and an ability to provide project management.

In addition to general LAN/WAN skills, the successful job applicant would need to have a specialist skill on top, such as Cisco, Citrix, Microsoft Exchange, or Novell Xenworks or Border Manager experience. He is also keen on Microsoft SMS and SQL Server.

The successful appointee, he says, is probably working for a reasonable sized firm at network operating system level. Industry qualifications like MCSE, Novell CNC or Citrix would be useful, “but the experience, the professional attitude and motivation is most important”.

The company is keen on training and is willing to train in Citrix or Windows 2000, because it sees these skills as been in great demand over the next six to 12 months.

The position needs to be commenced immed-iately. To apply, contact Malcolm Dow at IT recruiter Candle.
