Web content developer

I have more than 20 years' experience in the computer industry, primarily involved in the areas of systems analysis, design, implementation and support.

Dear What Am I Worth,

I am a web content developer and create and maintain seven or eight websites on the internal network at Cisco Systems in California, where I have worked for a year.

I am 19, without a degree or qualifications, but I did two years of C programming. I know C, C++, HTML, CFML (ColdFusion), Macromedia Flash, Fireworks, Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Oracle, SQL and PERL. I know how to set up Apache servers on Unix (Solaris, Unix, Linux), I know Microsoft's internet information server (IIS) well, and I'm starting to get my CCDP (Cisco certified design professional) certification.

Before my current job, I worked as a web developer for www.gamers.com. I'm making around $US90,000 a year and wondering if I could get more.

IT Futures replies: I'm assuming that you are interested in emigrating to New Zealand at some stage soon. It's difficult to compare overseas salaries with New Zealand dollars as the dollar buys different things in different countries and you need to factor in lifestyle choices, but in a general context, I suggest you would achieve a salary of between $60,000 and $70,000, depending on the complexity of your commercial experience.
