HP offers service providers storage on demand

Hewlett-Packard this week announced that it will offer storage capacity on demand for service providers.

Hewlett-Packard this week announced that it will offer storage capacity on demand for service providers.

The service will be made available through its HP e-utilica plug-and-play internet data centre, the company says. It allows service providers and carriers to instantly launch or add to pay-per-use storage, application hosting and computing-capacity services.

HP e-utilica supports HP Surestore Disk Array XP512 and XP48 storage, which allows service providers the ability to provide customers storage partitions over the Internet, HP says. It also supports on-demand computing capacity for HP-UX, Microsoft Windows 2000 and NT and Linux operating systems.

HP e-utilica is made up of an administration rack, multiple computing racks (from four to 20) and/or storage racks in a 2 meter (1.8 yards) form factor. The administration rack, which connects the compute power to the Internet has security management and VPN (Virtual Private Network) administration functions, HP says.

The compute racks can accommodate up to 20 computing systems.

HP e-utilica is available now with an estimated price of $US500,000. More information can be gained at http://www.hp.com/go/e-utilica/
