Netscape Communications co-founder Marc Andreessen has formed a new company that will provide services and technology aimed at companies doing business on the Internet.

The company, called Loudcloud, will offer more details about its strategy and direction after the first of next year, according to a statement yesterday revealing the formation of Loudcloud and listing its management team.

Andreessen was briefly the first chief technology officer for America Online (AOL) after AOL acquired Netscape in a deal that was finalised in February of this year. Andreessen stayed in the AOL job for seven months before it was announced he was stepping down.

Andreessen is serving as chairman of Loudcloud whose executives also include:

-- Ben Horowitz, chief executive officer and co-founder, who worked at Netscape and AOL in the director and security products divisions, customer relationship applications and the AOL Shopping Platform Group.

-- Tim Howes, chief technology officer and co-founder, and co-inventor of LDAP (lightweight directory access protocol), the Internet directory standard.

-- In Sik Rhee, vice president of operational architecture and co-founder.

-- Jonathan Heiliger, vice president of operations.

-- Scott Dunlap, director of products.

-- Jason Rosenthal, director of marketing and business development.

-- Mathew Hein, business development manager.

The new venture, was founded last month. The company Web site, http://www.loudcloud.com, currently offers scant information, but does include biographies and photographs of Andreessen (in an uncharacteristic jacket and tie in his photo) and other executives hired thus far, as well as a listing of job openings.

Loudcloud Inc., based in Menlo Park, California, is at +1-650-321-4568 or on the Web at http://www.loudcloud.com.
