Microsoft has released the first beta software for Windows NT Embedded 4.0 to 350 test sites.
The embedded software was designed with the full Win32 Application Programming Interface set but with a smaller footprint to fit on smaller devices than the average server or PC. It is based on Windows NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 4.0.
NT Embedded is geared for products including high-speed printers and copiers; routers, retail point of sales devices; and devices for shop floor automation.
Added features to Version 4.0 include support for operation without a mouse, keyboard or display; diskless operation; and remote management infrastructure.
