Advanced RISC Machines has announced two new processor cores for use in handheld computers, network computers and smart phones, one of which has been optimised to run Microsoft's Windows CE operating system.
ARM also announced support from 11 real-time operating system vendors for the ARM940T microprocessor core, one of the first members of the ARM9 family. And it announced Multi-ICE, a tool for debugging processor cores embedded in application specific integrated circuits (ASICs).
The ARM910T and ARM920T announced today are the latest additions to the ARM9 family, which integrates functions traditionally handled by separate microcontrollers onto a single device to help keep power consumption and system costs down.
The ARM920T has been optimized to power the Windows CE operating system, helping manufacturers speed development of Windows CE-based products like handheld PCs, AutoPCs and mini-notebook computers, ARM officials said.
ARM, based in Cambridge, England, is an intellectual property company that designs processor cores and licenses the designs to chip manufacturers. The ARM910T and ARM920T are available for licensing today, ARM said. Pricing was not announced.
