Apple Computer has announced a framework that will allow developers to add QuickTime content and functionality to programs written in Sun's Java programming language.
A developer release of QuickTime for Java is available now through Apple's Web site. Full release availability was not disclosed.
The software will allow Java content developers to take advantage of QuickTime's graphics, sound, video, music, virtual reality and 3-D capabilities, Apple said.
The software presents the QuickTime 3.0 application programming interface (API) as a set of Java classes. The classes offer equivalent APIs for using QuickTime functionality on the Mac OS and Windows platforms, officials said.
QuickTime for Java supports the Mac OS Runtime for Java on Mac OS and the Sun JDK 1.1 on Windows NT and Windows 95, Apple said.
