EDS to lay off 120 New Zealand staff

EDS will lay off up to 120 staff as the first part of its restructuring in New Zealand.

EDS will lay off up to 120 staff as the first part of its restructuring in New Zealand.

The company has floated the proposed new structure before staff, with a final decison to be made early in December.

In a statement, EDS says the proposed structure would result in the loss of between 100 and 120 jobs, mainly from the support services (systems engineers) and infrastructure services (service delivery) parts of the company.

Counselling and outplacing support will be offered to those staff affected.

Managing director Eddie Bates says the changes will allow EDS to continue to leverage its resources across multiple industries and to meet customer needs more quickly.

Bates has earlier indicated that rationalisation of the company’s four data centres is high on the list of restructuring options.

EDS currently employs 1240 people.
