Telecom leaves Hamilton ISP without lines

A Hamilton Internet provider spent over a week with no dial-in lines after a

credit arrangement made by a Telecom salesman was not honoured by Telecom.

The ISP, Omega Centauri, declined to comment when approached by Computerworld,

saying a settlement had been reached, but the company's management is reportedly

still seething over the experience.

Omega Centauri wanted 10 dial-up lines installed to a Hamilton address where it

would have cost Telecom up to $500,000 to do the job. The company agreed to move

premises in return for an offer from Telecom salesman Murray Robertson of

substantial usage credits for the lines.

The credits, it appears were never applied, and after being warned to pay up,

the ISP was cut off. It is thought that official complaints have been lodged

with the Commerce Commission and with the managing director of Telecom.
