Internet World offers wealth of products

This week's Internet World '96 show will play host to a wide array of Internet product launches, reflecting the meteoric rise of the market for Internet-related wares.

Allen Systems Group will provide a glimpse of its forthcoming WebGalaxy, a rapid application development tool that sports a graphical front end for generating Java applications without writing code. The Windows-based WebGalaxy, which will be available in June, includes a drag-and-drop user interface -- similar to a flowchart -- for application assembly, automatic generation of Java and HTML code, ODBC connectivity, an inference engine, and cross-platform process invocation, according to Dave Bunker, vice-president of marketing and business planning.

"It's definitely a higher end Java development tool and has the potential to simplify creation of Java applications," says David Kelly, a senior consultant at the Hurwitz Consulting Group, in Newton, Massaqchusetts.

Natural Intelligence will demonstrate Release 1 of its US$299 Roaster Java development tool for the Macintosh, slated to ship in May. The Cambridge, Massachusetts, developer will also preview its Roaster Pro, a US summer release that will sport database connectivity, native compilers, visual development tools, and a new Java class library.

Management Science Associates (MSA) will introduce an upgrade to its BusinessWeb Internet-based decision-support application. BusinessWeb 2.0 adds a development toolkit, ad hoc charting support, slide-show capabilities, and improved printing. The tool, which includes an interface to Arbor Software's Essbase multidimensional database, will gain an interface to Oracle's Express online analytical processing server, as well as ODBC support, this US summer, according to Larry Linn, director of business analysis systems. MSA will also release a Netscape Navigator plug-in version of the product and is mulling over the development of a Java version, he says.

Accent Software International will unveil a plug-in version of its Internet with an Accent browser for Navigator 2.0 for Windows. The plug-in supports about 30 languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Arabic and Hebrew.

Also at the show, AllPen Software Inc. will introduce the NetHopper, a Web browser for Newton personal digital assistants. The US$49.95 NetHopper, which will be rolled out in conjunction with Apple's TCP/IP stack in mid-May, will support Point to Point Protocol/SLIP connections and will include an optional caching scheme. Internet World will also serve as the site for VeriSign's announcement of Digital ID Center, a digital certificate service, along with support for Netscape Navigator 3.0. The company also plans support for Electronic Digital Interchange and secure email services.
