A smartphone-based payment service developed by Auckland-based company Optimizer HQ will be available in 40 new markets across South-East Asia and Europe from August.
Swipe Reader is a mobile point-of-sale system that be used with smartphones, allowing retail staff to make transactions from a handset instead of a conventional POS system.
The mPOS system uses a dongle and is compatible with a range of iOS and Android devices.
The system is still waiting for the go-ahead from NZ regulators, which means the deal with Hong Kong-based ASAP Transaction Processing will see the device distributed earlier in overseas markets.
"While we are waiting for local regulators to approve it, we felt it was important for Optimizer to continue its global expansion and ASAP TP was a great partner in helping us reach new markets," Optimizer HQ CEO, Manas Kumar, said.
According to Optimizer, Reader will be available in 31 European markets and nine South-East Asian markets.
"With a number of our customers [for Optimizer HQ's cloud products] residing across these markets, it was a logical next step for us to deploy our technology there," Kumar said.
In May, Optimizer announced plans to list on the New Zealand Stock Exchange.
