Wellington’s Bolton Hotel includes iPad in room service

Boutique five-star hotel says the devices have replaced bulky print brochures and alarm clocks.

The Bolton Hotel has installed iPads in every room, with the devices replacing the alarm clocks and traditional printed brochures about hotel facilities and local attractions.

Warwick Angus, managing director of the five-star boutique hotel in Wellington, believes Bolton is the first local hotel to provide iPads throughout the hotel.

Guests can use the iPad throughout the hotel and in Wellington’s Wi-Fi hotspots. All hotel-related browsing will take place through an app built by a local provider, Apps Us.

The app contains all of the information usually found in the traditionally printed compendium or brochure about the hotel facilities and local attractions. Angus says guests can easily contact the front desk or concierge and order room service using the device.

The hotel says the iPad rollout has also greatly reduced the amount of paper used for their rochures.

“It is just a cost-efficient way of getting in-room information,” says Angus. “Any changes can be made instantaneously through the master computer system.”

If a guest mistakenly brings the iPad after checkout, the hotel can track the device through the app, and contact the person, he says.

He says all 139 rooms now have iPads, with the presidential suites offering up to three iPads for guests.
