Movers and shakers: New ICT executive appointments across NZ

Hannes Van Zyl moves to Hawkins Group, Wellington Airport creates new CIO role.

Hannes Van Zyl is now chief information officer at Hawkins Group, a major privately owned construction and infrastructure company.

He reports to group CEO Geoff Hunt, who held the same role at Kordia, where Van Zyl was CIO.

Van Zyl’s previous roles included IT manager at Transfield and service delivery manager at Carter Holt Harvey.

Alistair Vickers has left his CIO role at MetService and is moving to Vector Group as information technology manager for Advanced Metering Services.

Meanwhile, Wellington Airport is recruiting for the newly created chief information officer post.

The airport had advertised for a “highly customer focused senior manager, to lead a technology strategy that will deliver the business goals through the deployment of current and future technology across the organisation”.

Other recent ICT appointments:

Peter Jameson is now senior project manager at New Zealand Transport Authority. Prior to this, he was senior project manager at Auckland Transport and telecommunications consultant at the Financial Markets Authority.

Ed Overy is now the CIO at Kiwirail, following more than four years as general manager for Air New Zealand in Japan and Korea. Before this, he was general manager group IT production at the airline, part of the team led by CIO Julia Raue. .

Neil Gong is now ISS manager at training provider NZ Management Academies. He came from Laidlaw College where he was IT manager for nearly seven years.

Nigel Bailey is now GM of Fairfax Production Services, which is a new, company-wide operational unit responsible for editorial and advertising production across all platforms. Before this, he was GM technology for Fairfax NZ.

David Sykes is appointed sales director, Australia and New Zealand, for Sophos.

The Executive Connection (TEC) has appointed Kevin Mulcahy as one of its new chairpersons. Mulcahy has over 28 years’ experience in senior executive roles with skills in strategy, developing people-focused cultures, sales, marketing and customer service.
