Snap launches broadband service on Chorus' UFB network

The service, which is being launched as a trial, will offer download speeds of up to 200Mbps and come with an unlimited data package option as well.

Snap has launched Lightwave Extreme, a broadband service offering download speeds of up to 200Mbps and upload speeds of upto 50Mbps over the Chorus Ultra-Fast Broadband network.

Lightwave Extreme comes with 500GB of data for $159 per month, and users can avail of an unlimited data package under a Lightwave Extreme Unlimited option for $199 per month.

The Chorus’ 200Mbps service is currently offered on a trial basis and limited to the first 1,000 subscribers. Both existing and new Snap customers can sign up, and the company states that it will transition any customers to similar or better future services at the end of the trial.

“There is today, nothing faster for New Zealand households and we expect heavy internet users will want to see for themselves what difference 200Mbps makes to their online experience. It effectively doubles download speeds,” said Snap CEO Mark Petrie.

Chorus general manager, marketing and sales Victoria Crone says: “It’s great to see Snap taking the lead with Lightwave Extreme. Fibre will redefine New Zealand’s broadband experience and Snap is doing a great job of leading the way in giving their customers some of the very best broadband in the entire world.”

Lightwave Extreme is only available in areas covered by the Chorus network, and where Snap is currently providing UFB services. The trial’s specific terms and conditions can be viewed here.
