Mobile security fears turn UK firms into world's mobile laggards shows research

Just 28 percent of US firms are concerned about mobile security, compared to over 70 percent in the UK

Doubts about the security and privacy of enterprise mobility initiatives are higher among UK organisations than in any other country and are delaying adoption, according to global research CA Technologies.

The study, "TechInsights Report: Enterprise Mobility - It's All About the Apps", reveals that 71 percent of UK firms are concerned about security/privacy and believe it needs to be addressed urgently. This compares with just 37 percent of firms in Europe as a whole, and 28 percent of US ones.

It also reveals that 59 percent of UK organisations (the highest figure in Europe) have had to redesign their security strategy and policies in the wake of increased mobile device adoption.

UK organisations with a mobility strategy are mainly seeing benefits concentrated on the customer, rather than the enterprise. For instance, 35 percent of UK firms have seen both an increase in customer satisfaction and accelerated time to market for delivering new services, whereas increased employee productivity scores lower than most other European countries.

"In today's world of mobile apps and BYOD (bring your own device)organisations are under enormous pressure to deliver the right mobility strategy or risk being left behind," said James Rendell, technical strategist for mobility at CA Technologies.

"Mobile security is crucial, unless organisations adopt an effective and integrated mobility management solution, the mobile devices quickly become mobile paperweights, said Rendell.

"To survive and win they need to break away from their current siloed approach to mobility and choose a solution that addresses technology convergence, change and evolution, and which focuses on end-user experience to deliver higher quality business services."

The survey questioned 1,300 senior IT leaders in financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, the public sector and telecoms in 21 countries. This included 650 respondents in Europe, including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands, the Nordics and Israel.
