Sky Television and Telecom will not renew their current contract which involves the resale of the NZ-operated satellite provider’s services to the latter’s customers.
According to a statement, the two parties are working to minimise any impact of the decision on Telecom customers with a Sky TV bundle who will now be migrated back to Sky.
Sky expects all transfers to be completed by the end of May.
While Sky did not comment on the reasons for the non-renewal, Telecom told Reseller News "the decision to end the Sky reselling agreement simply reflect that this is a legacy product" — the telco has not signed any new customers to Sky since 2008.
"With our current focus on simplifying our offering to customers, it simply didn't make sense for us to continue this arrangement," a spokesperson said.
Regardless, both Sky and Telecom remain open to working together in the future.
