Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra’s (APO) Organ Symphony concert will be streamed online as a live broadcast, and made available to watch online on APO’s website as well as Radio New Zealand’s afterwards.
According to the APO, it already broadcasts its concerts on Radio New Zealand but this is the first time people will be able to watch a full performance as well as listen.
The 27 February concert will feature Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.1, featuring Ukrainian star Alexander Gavrylyuk on piano and Saint-Saëns’s Symphony No.3, which is the ‘Organ Symphony’ of the concert’s title.
“There’s nothing quite like actually being there,” said APO Chief Executive Barbara Glaser, “but for anyone who can’t make it to Auckland that night, this is the perfect solution. We’re committed to reaching as many people as possible, and technology now gives everyone the chance to see a top orchestra play some wonderful music.”
The concert can be viewed on Internet-connected devices, including smart TVs and smartphones.
As well as the live stream, the concert will be available to view on the APO website until 14 March.
“We will look to stream more of our future performances. There are a lot of factors to consider, including copyright laws and requirements,” said Richard Betts, publicist for the APO.
