Vodafone’s NZ arm has partnered with International Telematics’ (ITL) in a five-year agreement which will see both companies leverage each other’s’ international presence to grow in specific markets.
ITL is a privately-owned enterprise fleet management company which offers asset location monitoring and security, driver behaviour reports, and environmental impact assessments using machine-to-machine (M2M) technology. It operates in Australasia, North America, and Europe.
According to its global chief executive officer (CEO), Guy Colglazier, the move will allow ITL to penetrate new international markets by using Vodafone’s network to “help remove the traditional barriers for expansion offshore.”
For example, ITL will use Vodafone’s M2M platform to ship its product direct from its warehouse with the ability to track its movement and utilisation.
Vodafone NZ head of M2M, Tony Bacon, said that being able to scale an M2M solution internationally is where the telecommunications provider’s advantage lies.
“Vodafone’s M2M platform is currently used for services ranging from electric road tolling, to refrigerator monitoring, to security services and electricity metering,” Bacon said. “ITL now has the ability to connect to over 580 mobile networks around the world.”
Vodafone’s M2M platform will first be utilised in ITL’s well-established regions, including Australia and North America, and will expand as the company grows.
