Lotto New Zealand has launched a smartphone app with a ticket checker function that will allow customers to inspect tickets wherever they are and find out if they are a winner.
“Lotto is moving with the times,” said Ben Coney, Lotto NZ’s digital GM.
“Most people have a smartphone these days and we’re always looking for new ways to make our games even more fun to play, so it makes sense to offer this great service to our players.
“The app is connected directly to the Lotto gaming system, so checking tickets through the app is just as reliable for players as taking them into a local Lotto store.”
According to the firm, all printed Lotto, Big Wednesday, Keno, Bullseye and Instant Kiwi tickets can be checked through the app by scanning the barcode using the phone’s camera. Once scanned the app will let customers know their status, and if they have won, where their prize is.
Customers can also use the app to find nearby Lotto stores and receive jackpot notifications.
The app follows in the wake of Lotto's online sales channel, MyLotto, which was launched in 2008 and a supporting mobile site in 2012.
The Lotto NZ app is available on both Apple and Android smartphones.
