Telecom becomes Spark

As part of the change the company’s medium-to-large business and IT services division, Gen-i, has become Spark Digital.

Telecom has officially become Spark New Zealand today.

MD Simon Moutter said, “We now do much more than provide a copper line telephone service and we no longer own the fixed line network. We’re into a whole raft of new technologies…business cloud services, data centres, Internet TV, whatever new is around the corner. The Telecom brand simply didn’t reflect this new world.

As part of the change the company’s medium-to-large business and IT services division, Gen-i, has become Spark Digital.

“The needs of our business, enterprise and government customers are changing just as fast as those of consumers. Spark Digital will provide our customers with ready access to leading infrastructure, capabilities and skill sets as they meet the demands of an increasingly globalised, connected and mobile customer base,” said Moutter.

The company also announced a crowdfunding initiative called Spark My Potential, a zero fees, pledge-based website where selected candidates are able to access expert crowdfunding coaching, opportunities for increased public profile, and – in some cases – topped up funding from Spark.

It’s an extension of online fundraising platform Givealittle, which Spark Foundation purchased in 2012.

Spark has selected a line-up of inaugural participants who will each receive dollar-for-dollar matched funding from today, August 8th, until midnight Sunday 10th of August, or until project targets have been reached.

New Zealanders can express their interest and find more information on Spark My Potential programme here.

Acording to Moutter, Spark will be announcing more new initiatives in the coming weeks and months.
