Westcon expands Cloud presence with OfficeBox A/NZ distie deal

Service allows users to mobilise their Office desktop through smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices

Westcon Group has finalised a distribution agreement with Cloud Data Centre (Cloud DC), in a move which sees DC’s leading product, OfficeBox, launched across Australia and New Zealand.

In keeping with Westcon’s growing presence within the Cloud space, the value-added distributor takes on a service that allows users to mobilise their Office desktop through smartphones, tablets, laptops and other devices, providing on the go access to programs such as PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Microsoft Word and Excel.

“We are launching OfficeBox initially in Australia and New Zealand, then eventually Singapore and other markets,” says Darryl Grauman, director of cloud services Asia Pacific, Westcon, who at this stage did not divulge specific market dates.

Grauman says Westcon’s recent acquisition of Verecloud will underpin the distribution strategy for OfficeBox, realising Cloud DC’s go to market strategy of utilising the reseller network.

“What attracted us the most to OfficeBox is the simplicity to administer and the ability to white label the product by resellers,” he adds. “With OfficeBox being a highly automated, highly scalable and resilient platform, we will be able to make it available through our online Store Front feature.”

Grauman says Westcon recognises that the way businesses are consuming IT is rapidly changing.

No longer do they want to outlay large chunks of capital or lock themselves into long term finance contracts for IT infrastructure and services.

Businesses want to be able to pay for their IT as and when they consume it on an operational expenditure basis. As a result, Grauman says Westcon’s ‘Cloud Strategy’ is to on-board vendors such as Cloud DC with their product OfficeBox so they are at the forefront of this change.

“We’re really excited about this opportunity; we know that OfficeBox will hit the mark when it comes to providing a complete cloud based solution for business,” he adds.

“Westcon is a Distribution company with big ideas on bringing the Cloud to the market and the Cloud DC people share the same vision in the way IT will be acquired in the future.”

According to Steve Robinson, CEO, Cloud DC, the deal with Westcon “validates the market opportunity” Cloud DC is targeting with OfficeBox.

“Having a global Distribution company on-boarding OfficeBox as a key Cloud product in their stable speaks volumes on the true potential of this product,” he adds.

“OfficeBox is the future of business computing and Westcon shares our vision.”
