Young ISP Bigpipe takes up UFB gauntlet across Auckland

“Ultra-Fast Broadband is next generation broadband that Kiwis should have access to."

Bigpipe, a Spark Ventures business, has announced the launch of three new Ultra-Fast Broadband (UFB) plans, including 200Mbps download/200Mbps upload offering, which stands as the fastest available for residential customers in Auckland.

The young ISP, which only launched in February 2014 , has been providing three standard copper plans to date that have seen them reported as the top ADSL performer in Truenet’s independent industry reports.

As a result, Oliver Smith, Head of Bigpipe, says the company is poised to motivate movement in the industry as others begin to take advantage of the new offerings from Chorus.

“Bigpipe has taken up the gauntlet offered by Chorus, and are delighted to offer Aucklanders the fastest broadband available to their homes today,” he says.

“It is Bigpipe’s belief that Ultra-Fast Broadband should not be offered to customers at any less than 100Mbps download speed, anything lower defeats the purpose of purchasing UFB.

“You’ll notice that our entry level starter package offers the same speeds as many other ISP’s fastest plans. If it’s speed you want and unlimited data to make the most of it, the choice is easy”.

Smith says the launch focuses its efforts in Auckland initially, but Bigpipe plans to roll out its offering throughout the country over the next few months.

“We have prioritised launch in Auckland given the infrastructure that exists but we are determined to offer the rest of the country the benefits of true Ultra-Fast Broadband in the coming months,” he adds.

“We’ve been acknowledged as the fastest ADSL provider by independent industry measures, and these are improved exponentially with our UFB plans.

“Speed, latency and lag are no longer issues with Bigpipe UFB.”

Chorus introduced the higher speed plans in July this year in an effort to encourage ISP’s to move away from the standardised entry level plan of 30/10 which they didn’t believe was fast enough for the New Zealand consumer.

While Bigpipe have embraced this move, Smith claims others have ignored it.

“Ultra-Fast Broadband is next generation broadband that Kiwis should have access to,” he adds.

“We are excited to offer Aucklanders the opportunity to get the best download and upload speeds possible from the comfort of their own home.”
