As James Fuller from Davanti wrote in his article ‘Digital is the new normal’, the term ‘digital’ is so often spoken about that it's as popular a topic as the cronut, a cross between a croissant and a doughnut that attracted a fanatical fan base.
Davanti also goes one step further to say that it's not the next new thing, it's already here and if you're not already thinking digital in your business as usual, you are missing a trick.
Digital is often used to describe things that are really just a new evolution of existing business technology but the real definition of digital is a revolution - because the rate of pace has leapt up a gear and technology has become so pervasive.
In the past, the way you would create and run a business would be roughly the same as how you would have 10 - 20 years before. But just think about trying to create a business now the same way you would have in 1995 or even 2005.
In many industries, you'd be obsolete before you got your first customer. In others, you might get started but really struggle to operate, compete and even transact effectively.
Businesses that have been operating that long need to make sure they have kept up - that they can truly compete with a "digital native" competitor.
This isn't just putting some lipstick on your technical pigs; it's viewing your whole business through a digital lense.
You need to understand and keep pace with the world around you. Even better - get ahead of the curve and create the next cronut…
