Another Christchurch win as Tait delivers national Australian radio network

Christchurch-based critical communications company Tait Communications has been chosen for Australia’s first national Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier III network.

Christchurch-based critical communications company Tait Communications has been chosen for Australia’s first national Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) Tier III network.

Clinching a deal with Australian telecommunications provider Vertel, Tait will deliver the solution that provides digital voice and data services to help government and enterprise customers increase their operational effectiveness and efficiency.

Brett Smythe, General Manager for Tait Asia-Pacific, says that Tait’s commitment to providing open-standards, which enables customers to choose their radio hardware and software from Tait or other vendors, was the major factor in securing the contract.

The contract represented an important milestone in a long-term relationship with Vertel, he says.

“We are pleased that Vertel has chosen Tait as a partner to deliver this project," he adds.

"We aim to achieve better business outcomes for our clients and, for Vertel, this means delivering a system that will give their customers the freedom to gradually and cost effectively migrate to digital radio.

"Our open-standards network is designed to allow for this flexibility and its value is proven time and again by our clients around the world."

Smythe says the first phase of the network connecting Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong and the surrounding areas in New South Wales, is expected to go live early in 2015.

The partnership with Vertel builds on Tait’s success in Europe in 2014, where it signed a long-term contract with telecommunications company Entropia to deliver a UK-wide DMR Tier III network.
