First to the party Orcon questions Spark / Vodafone Gigatown no-show

Orcon general manager Mike Shirley says he’s surprised at the lack of support for the Gigatown launch from Vodafone and Spark but is quite happy to offer their customers Gig services.

Orcon has been the first ISP to connect Gigatown customers to the fastest internet in the country as Chorus enabled gigabit speed internet in the winning Gigatown, Dunedin.

Orcon general manager Mike Shirley says he’s surprised at the lack of support for the Gigatown launch from Vodafone and Spark but is quite happy to offer their customers Gig services.

“Spark announced they won’t have Gig services available until around the middle of the year, and Vodafone is yet to announce any Gigabit plans," Shirley says.

"We have over 600 pre-sales for our Orcon gigabit plans and we’re really excited to be hooking up customers right across Dunedin."

Orcon announced its Gigatown plans in November last year which include personal account managed installation support.

The residential Orcon 1Gbps plans start at $85 per month for 100GB and $95 a month for Unlimited.

“Part of our pre-sales 24 month plan offer included a free Roku 3 which proved popular," Shirley adds.

"Over half (53%) of our pre-sale customers opted for this plan, showing people are keen to experience streaming services on gigabit speeds, one of the many benefits of having super-fast internet.

“We can’t wait for Gigatown residents to experience the true potential of what gigabit speed internet can offer.”
