Business set to benefit as UFB heads to Wanaka in April

Wanaka businesses will be able to access Ultra-Fast Broadband next month, as CallPlus completes the final step in a long campaign to bring fibre to the area.

Sharing its plans for connecting businesses at the opening of The Cell, Wanaka’s new incubator-style facility in the centre of town which will provide a space for start-ups and SMBS, CallPlus will be connecting to the UFB network in just a few weeks, as soon as Chorus has completed rolling out the required fibre optic infrastructure.

Wanaka Chamber of Commerce chairman Alistair King says the town is firmly behind UFB.

“We’ve been working on getting fibre in to the CBD for a while now, and it is great to see this become a reality,” he says.

Wanaka’s interest in UFB began 18 months ago during the Gigatown campaign when intense lobbying by Wanaka’s Chamber of Commerce gained the attention of CallPlus General Manager Kelvin Hussey, who saw an opportunity to support the businesses that were eager to access ultra-fast internet speeds.

“Wanaka has proven just how much it wants UFB," Hussey says. "Even though it missed out on becoming the country’s first Gigatown, we decided to make a commitment to help businesses get connected as soon as possible.

“UFB is a game changer for New Zealand businesses and we are committed to providing affordable ultra-fast broadband across the country.

"It is exciting to be the first in a region and get companies connected. And because our UFB plans are unlimited, businesses won’t have to worry about how much bandwidth is being used."

Hussey says CallPlus will be installing UFB services for Wanaka businesses in the CBD from April 2015.
