"Vodafone has done the right thing by supporting parents in their workforce, in a way that the National Government has refused to do."
That’s the damning assessment of Labour's spokesperson for Women's Affairs Sue Moroney, who following the launch of a new maternity policy across New Zealand, believes the Government should six up and take notice.
“Vodafone's announcement of six months’ paid parental leave for its employees is more evidence of the strong support for Labour's efforts to extend paid parental leave,” Moroney adds.
As reported by Computerworld New Zealand, the new policy will mean primary caregivers who return to Vodafone within 12 months receive full pay for a 30-hour week for the first six months.
“Unfortunately, this sensible measure won't be extended to other New Zealand families because the National Government have opposed it at every step of the way,” Moroney adds.
“The persistent political games played by National during the three years my Member’s Bill was before Parliament shows its contempt for working families and all other New Zealanders who want children to get the best start in life.”
