Dell bent on success as tech giant makes double executive hire

Dell appoints two proven industry leaders to key executive positions on its Commercial Sales and Enterprise Solutions leadership teams.

Dell has announced the appointment of two proven industry leaders to key executive positions on its Commercial Sales and Enterprise Solutions leadership teams.

Rory P. Read will become Chief Operating Officer and President of Worldwide Commercial Sales and will have responsibility for Dell’s global go-to-market initiatives, omni-channel sales planning and enablement.

Meanwhile, Paul Pérez has been named Chief Technology Officer of the Enterprise Solutions Group and will focus on leading the architecture, design and build-out of the next wave of Dell’s future-ready data centre technologies.

"Rory and Paul add enterprise IT expertise and depth to Dell’s leadership team and will help accelerate Dell’s place as an enterprise powerhouse and trusted advisor to businesses globally,” says Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, Dell.

“I look forward to their contributions – from the design of our solutions to how we deliver and support them with our customers.”

Read joins Dell after a 30-year career with global technology companies such as Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), Lenovo and IBM.

There he served as Chief Executive Officer and President at AMD, Chief Operating Officer and President at Lenovo, and had IBM Business Services leadership responsibilities in the Asia-Pacific region.

In his new role, Read will lead Dell’s cross-business unit and country-level operational planning to further develop Dell’s sales and go-to-market organisations, enhancing the company’s direct selling capabilities and further accelerating the company’s momentum in the channel - he also will own global systems integrator relationships and the global OEM business.

"Dell is one of the most exciting companies in the industry right now with its ascension into the top tier of enterprise vendors and, soon, as the only credible end-to-end IT company,” says Rory P. Read, Chief Operating Officer of Commercial Sales, Dell.

“I am very excited to join the company and help accelerate its evolution. The best way I know how to do this is to delight our customers at every turn and that will be my first priority.”

Furthermore, Pérez joins Dell from Cisco Systems where he most recently served as vice president and general manager for the company’s Computing Systems Product Group, responsible for the UCS server and management portfolio.

Also at Cisco, Pérez served as Chief Technology Officer for its Data Centre Business Group, where he oversaw the company’s technology strategy for converged infrastructure, virtualisation and private cloud automation.

Prior to Cisco, Pérez was the Chief Technologist at Hewlett-Packard for its ProLiant and BladeSystem infrastructure.

Pérez will serve as the chief technical advisor for the Dell Enterprise Solutions Group to drive Dell’s long-term enterprise technology strategy - he also will collaborate with server, storage, networking and engineered solutions teams on near-term product and solutions roadmaps.

"I believe Dell’s best days are ahead,” adds Paul Pérez, Chief Technology Officer of Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell.

“It’s very clear the industry is moving towards software-defined data centres running on industry standard x86 servers, and Dell, with its strength in compute and storage, and growing networking portfolio, is poised to lead this transition.

“I am thrilled to be at the centre of architecting and designing the solutions that enable customers to achieve this vision and to do so powered by Dell.”

Read will join Dell on April 6, 2015, while Pérez started at Dell this week - both executives will report to Marius Haas, Chief Commercial Officer and President of Enterprise Solutions Group, Dell.
