Chorus eyes future broadband success following new board hire

“Chorus has an incredibly important role to play in New Zealand’s success as a nation..."

Chorus has today announced that Dr Patrick Strange has been appointed to its Board.

Dr Strange is currently a director of Mighty River Power, WorkSafe New Zealand and of the joint board of Ausgrid, Endeavour Energy and Essential Energy, Australia.

Dr Strange has spent 30 years working as a senior executive and director in both private and listed companies, including for more than six years as Chief Executive of Transpower, where he oversaw Transpower’s $3.8 billion of essential investment in the National Grid.

Dr Strange says that he is eager to contribute his skills and experience to ensuring the success of a once in a generation upgrade of New Zealand’s broadband infrastructure.

“Chorus has an incredibly important role to play in New Zealand’s success as a nation, as better broadband underpins so much of what the country wants to achieve both socially and economically," he says.

Chorus Chairman Jon Hartley says Dr Strange has an "outstanding record" of management experience and strategic leadership in regulated industries.

“Patrick brings extensive regulated infrastructure industry experience and a successful track record in both management and governance, as well as being a recognised champion of health and safety," he adds.

“We look forward to him joining the Board and contributing to the future success of Chorus.”

The Chorus Board has determined that Dr Strange is an independent director.
