Success in Wellington as IT consultancy firm turns 20

“We’ve come a long way since 1995."

IT consultancy Theta has just marked twenty years in business, with a move to bigger and brighter premises on The Terrace reflecting ongoing success in the Wellington region.

The technology consultancy designs, delivers and supports business intelligence, software, integration, systems management and ERP solutions for many organisations in the capital, including Ministry of Health, Quotable Value, Office of the Auditor General and Z Energy.

“Expansion in the capital has been a key part of our business development strategy since the acquisition of Wellington-based firm Prophesy back in 2011,” says Rob Lee, CEO, Theta.

“We have built a dynamic portfolio of government and private sector customers in the region, and now have premises with capacity to accommodate growth forecast over the next three years.”

Theta now has three offices in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, and more than 180 staff.

“We’ve come a long way since 1995,” adds Matt Owen, founder and director, Theta.

“Back then we called ourselves a “virtual company” - we thought that sounded better than saying we had no office. But even though we’re much bigger now, with several offices, we remain true to our founding values.

“We still put customers first, and we still think our people are our greatest asset. Our first ever staff member still works in the business, and of four customers we had when we started out, three are still customers.”

According to Owen, key criteria in selecting the new office at 93 The Terrace were a higher earthquake rating and improved facilities for staff.
