Samsung Electronics New Zealand has sealed its first commercial deal for its new flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, with engineering consultancy firm Opus International Consultants (Opus).

Placed through Spark Digital, the contract signals one of the first enterprise deals Samsung has brokered for the new Galaxy S7, which goes on sale globally to consumers on March 11.

“The delivery of 1,600 Galaxy S7’s to Opus confirms the confidence we have in our latest smartphone as the most complete, secure and durable device for enterprise we’ve ever produced,” says Verdon Kelliher, Strategic Business Director, Samsung New Zealand.

“The Opus team will be one of the first companies in the world to experience the Galaxy S7 as a business device.

"We are incredibly proud that one of our first enterprise success stories for our 2016 flagship device will be generated from New Zealand, and we hope that this partnership will pave the way for businesses across Samsung’s global network."

Opus Chief Executive, Dr David Prentice says the company will be issuing staff members in New Zealand with a Galaxy S7 as part of a fleet upgrade, from senior leaders to graduate engineers.

“We are a highly-mobile business with a large proportion of our people moving between offices and field locations, and the S7 will help in our drive to be as efficient as we can no matter where our people are physically working,” Dr Prentice says.

“Our multi-disciplinary team works across New Zealand on dynamic and challenging projects that keep the country running - from water supply to energy, transport, telecommunications and buildings.

“Naturally, the water and dust resistant feature of the Galaxy S7 played an important part of our decision making as did the significantly reduced total cost of device ownership that Samsung and Spark have achieved for our business.”

Opus has 3,000 engineers, designers, planners, researchers and advisors work with more than 12,000 clients across Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the Middle East, Fiji, the United States and the United Kingdom.

In New Zealand, Opus operates a network of 40 offices and employs over 1,700 people.
