Windows 10 adoption is racing along at breakneck speed, with over 270 million computers now actively running Microsoft’s new operating system.
Announced during the opening of Redmond’s Build developer conference in San Francisco, Microsoft says users have logged more than 75 billion hours of Windows 10 time so far, with adoption comfortably outstripping that of previous operating systems.
In a thinly veiled attack on industry rival Apple - who today launched its 9.7-inch iPad Pro device in New Zealand - Microsoft declared its support for users across all ends of the upgrade cycle, with over 600 million active PCs over five years old.
With Philip Schiller, Senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Apple, branding the number “sad” during Apple’s devices launch last week, Windows 10 chief Terry Myerson told users; "We welcome everyone to Windows 10, whether you have a new PC, a five-year-old PC, or a brand new Mac.”
We <3 ALL our Windows 10 customers – whether they have new PCs… or five year old PCs :-) #Windows10 #Build2016

Echoing Myerson’s comments on market adoption, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella says “Windows 10 is off to an amazing start” as the company targets its much-publicised goal of having Windows 10 on a billion devices by 2018.
“It’s the fastest growing version of Windows with both consumers and enterprises,” he added.
