The writing was on the wall for some Intel executives after a former Qualcomm executive was hired to oversee the company's PC, Internet of Things and software businesses, and two of them have now departed.
Kirk Skaugen, who previously led the Client Computing Group, and Doug Davis, who ran the IoT group, have left the company, Intel said.
Their roles were diminished after the November appointment of Venkata Renduchintala, who formerly worked at Qualcomm, as president of Intel's Client and IoT businesses and its Systems Architecture Group. Renduchintala, who's known as Murthy, is effectively Intel's number two executive after Brian Krzanich.
Skaugen was viewed as an executive who would jump into the role as president of the Client Computing Group, but Renduchintala was instead hired. Skaugen previously made the Data Center Group a money-making machine, until he shifted to fix the PC Client group, which was later renamed the Client Computing Group.
Intel executive Navin Shenoy, who oversaw the company's mobile chips, will now take Skaugen's role of senior vice president and general manager of Intel's Client Computing Group.
Davis has moved between divisions during his 32-year career at Intel, playing roles in manufacturing, hardware, and software and most recently as the senior vice president and general manager of the IoT Group. He retired to spend more time with his family.
